Soup – is a traditional Portuguese dish, cooked slowly, usually served hot, which includes, in addition to water, assorted vegetables, meats, fish or pasta according to each person's taste. The consistency can vary from the most liquid to the most pasty. It is, usually, the first course of a traditional Portuguese meal, and is often the dish that initiates the baby's dietary transition from breast or replacement milk to food (simple vegetable soup).
